About The Busker

‘The Busker’ as a band, was formed in October, 2012, by Dario Genovese (guitar+vox) and Jean Paul Borg (drums + percussion). The two had been already working together in other musical endeavors but then due to their excellent musical chemistry and similar musical tastes, they decided to opt for “The Busker” blending 1960s pop/rock with folk/rock, their two favourite styles.

The band’s main inspirations range from The Beatles all the way to folk heroes such as Bob Dylan. In the last two years, the band saw two new additions, David Grech on Bass/Keys and Sean Meachen on the Saxophone. Although ‘The Busker’ is relatively new, the last 2 years, for the band, have been full of events and performances in which through them they collected valuable live experience and enhanced stage confidence.

Up till now they have released 4 EPs entitled: The Busker, Greenwich Village, EP3 and #FOUR and a full-length album which will be mentioned later. ‘Percussion Song’ off EP #FOUR has reached number 2 on local charts.

2016 was a pretty busy year for The Busker. They played in all local major festivals; opening for Neville Staple (The Specials) at Earth Garden, opening for Tribali at the Beer Festival (main stage) along with other important festivals. They have released their album Telegram in December which won Best Album in the MMI Awards. They have also organised a short mini-tour in London performing in venues such as ‘The Borderline’ and ‘229 the venue’

Their second single off this album ‘It’s Alright (I’ve got the blues) also climbed the local charts; reached no1 on top local radio stations and was also no1 on the local PRS charts for weeks. The music video to this same song won the best video in the MMI awards.

2017 started with a bang. The boys headed to Sicily for a short tour which was organized by ArtMalta. The response there was fantastic and this year is expected to be very busy internationally too with already two other short visits planned.
