8 Romantic Movies to Get You in the Wedding Spirit

By March 9, 2018 No Comments

Load up Netflix (or whichever site it is you use – we know who you are…), crawl under a duvet with your loved one: movie night just got a whole lot more lovin’.

1. The Wedding Singer

Arguably one of the few greats from Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. The proposal scene is 80’s-inspired musical perfection!

Billy Idol makes a cameo, too, so there’s that as well.

2. When Harry Met Sally

1989 saw Billy Crystal deliver one of the biggest swoons in modern romance films.

“When you realise you want to spend the rest of your life with someone you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”

This film is the real Fairytale of New York. 😏

3. Sex and the City: the Movie

Imagine being Carrie Bradshaw. Now, imagine Mr Big gets down on knee for you inside your walk-in wardrobe.

Need we say more?

4. Walk the Line

Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon star as Johnny Cash and June Carter in the film that tells the story of Cash’s rise to fame from the early days of his childhood on a corn farm.

With a public proposal on stage for all the audience to see, putting June on the spot, this could inspire all sorts of romantic ways to propose to a partner.

5. Runaway Bride

It couldn’t have made any more sense for Maggie to get down on one knee for Homer after leaving her prior fiances standing at the altar.

Her proposal speech is one of our favourites and could inspire a plethora of Sadie Hawkins-esque proposals.

6. Ever After

There’s no better way to propose than by starting with an apology. And, in the spirit of the film’s title, Henry then solidifies the engagement by presenting Danielle with her missing shoe.

The Cinderella Story that could have been with no sign of Hilary Duff – hooray!

7. Looking: the Movie

While we never actually get to see the proposal between Agustin and Eddie, the finale of the taken-away-too-soon HBO series explores a real-life take on gay relationships and marriage.

Showcasing the raw side of any relationship on the day of their wedding, from cold feet to drunken outbursts, this is one film often overlooked for its reality of romance in favour of its boy-next-door-turned-homewrecker appeal.

8. A Walk to Remember

One of Jamie’s wishes is to marry in the same church as her late grandmother was married to her grandfather in.

Landon takes it upon himself to grant her wish and pops the big question while the two are stargazing. #goals
