Should You Get Dance Lessons For Your Big Day?

By May 25, 2018 No Comments

One of the most memorable parts of your big day will be your first dance as a married couple. That sounds really romantic until you realise everyone is going to be looking at you.

Now, our first piece of advice is to take a deep breath and get on with it because, ultimately, it will only last a few minutes and very, very, very few people in this world are so bad at dancing that they will make people faint or gasp in horror.

With that in mind, here’s the rest of our advice:

1. Choose Your Wedding Song

No, not the one by Elton John or from the Moulin Rouge soundtrack, but which song you’d like to dance to. This will give you a better idea of what you need to rehearse before your wedding day. It’s also important to be flexible with your choice and to remember that the choreography will be different (and maybe easier) depending on the song you choose.

2. How Far Do You Want To Go?

Some people are naturally gifted at dancing while others will need a lot of practice. You also need to think about how far you want to take your routine: Do you want to go the whole hog with carefully choreographed moves, or do you just want to learn a few steps and then improvise? The one most important factor here is how you feel; remember, you’ll have a lot to do on the actual day… Worrying about a choreography shouldn’t be on the list.

3. Understand the Process

Learning a choreography isn’t just about learning a few steps, it’s about being comfortable and confident enough to execute a routine in front of people. If you’re a perfectionist, this could take much longer than you’d assume (on average, five solid hours of lessons). Obviously, learning a few basic moves doesn’t take as long and can even be done through a YouTube tutorial – although you will not get the professional help to get it just right. Whatever you opt for, just remember that the moment won’t be magical because of how you dance but because of who you’re dancing with.

4. Enjoy the Moment

Going to wedding dance lessons will be a wonderful way of connecting with your better half – particularly as the wedding planning will be taking over a lot of the time you have with that person. That, in itself, makes it worth it as the laughs will definitely brighten your spirits. And, if you’re not sure you should spend money on something like this, then why not ask for dance lessons as part of your gift list?
