5 Things to Consider When Picking the Perfect Honeymoon Destination

By April 16, 2018 No Comments

One of the toughest decisions to make around your wedding plan is the location of the much-awaited honeymoon. It’s a once in a lifetime trip, not the kind of thing to be taken lightly. Follow our 5 tips to ensure you and your partner are able to book the honeymoon of your dreams!

1. Set a Budget

Before even thinking about potential destinations or making any reservations, you’ll need to determine exactly how much you can afford to spend on your trip

Be sure to set aside time to sit down with your partner and reach a mutual agreement with your honeymoon budget.

2. Choose a Theme

Are you inspired by the history of Europe? Or do you dream of cocktails under the tropical sun? If the two of you have different tastes or interests then consider mixing and matching the itinerary until you’re both equally satisfied.

Popular themes can include the beach, mountains, eco-tourism, road trips, parties, city breaks or countryside hideaways.

3. Determine a Duration

In addition to your budget, many other factors will affect the length of time you are able to honeymoon for. Be it your work schedules, your leave allowance or a predetermined itinerary (think all inclusive and/or cruises).

If you really do have your heart set on a longer honeymoon than you can currently afford (with your budget or your time), perhaps consider booking a smaller break for after your wedding (otherwise known as a mini-moon) and continue to save together for when the right time approaches.

4. Choose a Vibe

The general vibe you’re looking for from a destination or hotel is a key factor in narrowing down your final choices.

If you’re huge fans of the party scene, you might want to consider Las Vegas but if you’re after privacy and relaxation then perhaps a boutique hotel in the mountains of Spain will be a better option for the both of you.

5. Research the Seasons

No, not just the four weather-related ones. Consider the prices, local customs, time period you’re visiting in… it all makes a difference in where you eventually choose to go. If you don’t fare well in the heat, southern Italy should be off the cards.

Remember to research your potential destination thoroughly! September through October is hurricane season for honeymoon hotspots Jamaica and the Bahamas.

Also, think about the holiday season. It might be better to take your trip during the shoulder season (the time between peak and off-peak) for your honeymoon. This time will change dependent on the destination, but could save you and your partner a lot of money.
