4 Photography Styles That Will Rock your Wedding in Malta

By January 23, 2018 No Comments

Wedding photography is one of the few services on your big day that you don’t get to experience until after the day has ended. There are so many styles that wedding photographers can work with, but we’re here to help you choose the perfect one to suit your wedding in Malta. Here are 4 styles you might want to keep in mind when talking to your wedding photographer:

You never know what you’re getting from a photographer until after they’ve worked their magic behind the scenes. Sure, you can look at portfolios, but everyone’s wedding is different. Because of this, you may want to do some research regarding their skillets, styles and personal demeanour (or leave them a note on your request with Get Hitched).

Styles of Photography Vary Between Photographers…

Before you dive into the whole spectrum of things, you need to decide on what type of photography you would prefer. This will help determine the kind of photographer you want to have document your wedding in Malta.

1. Documentary

Do you want posed photographs? Set-ups, essentially. Instead of the typical bridal party beside a fountain why not try a candid approach? Typical shots may include guests dancing mid-disco, or the bride and groom together outside of their reception.

Sent off Jess & Chris' wedding photos last night and fell absolutely IN LOVE with this frame. It always fascinates me how drawn I am to different images at different points in the wedding & editing stages, and for some reason, this one grabbed me just before I sent the gallery out. I feel like it just perfectly represents the energy of that night, the love surrounding them, and the joy they bring out in each other. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Or, maybe I'm overanalysing it. Either way, can't wait to blog this baby. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #weddingmoments #momentsovermountains #firstdance #weddingdance #bridalwaltz #italianwedding #perthwedding #perthweddingphotographer #australianweddingphotographer #elopementphotographer #destinationweddingphotographer #heyheyhellomay #polkadotbride #greenweddingshoes #australianwedding #quietthechaos #weddingportrait #justmarried #brideandgroom #weddingreception #receptionideas #fairylights #outdoorreception #perthweddingvenue #agameoftones #nikonwedding #vscowedding #vscomood #documentaryweddingphotographer #fineartwedding

With a similar style to that of photojournalism, very rarely will subjects face the camera. This stile captures the moment as and when they happen. All of the shots together will tell a story unique to only your big day.

2. Portraiture

Think back to your parents wedding albums. The style of portraiture at a wedding focuses on posed shots of you and your guests against various backdrops. But, that isn’t to say there isn’t room for creative flair. A typical shot will entail group shots at the altar, or on the lawn of your ceremonial venue.

Kick things up a notch – spread yourself and your partner over an armchair a la Queen Elizabeth and her posse.

3. Fine Art

Though similar to documentary, this style offers the photographer the chance to infuse their own point of view into your collection. Fine art styled wedding photography reflects the realities of your big day from a different perspective. The photos are dramatic, they’re gorgeous and hold a more muted tone above other styles.

Objects are usually focused in the foreground, while everything else is slightly blurred. The motion flows very naturally. Not all photographers who take a fine art approach feel comfortable shooting portraits – and better yet if they admit to it as it shows that they have your best interests in mind. You may want to consider possibly hiring another photographer to handle the portraits of you and your families.

4. Edgy

An offshoot of the fine art style, this is where you want to be if you’re someone that lives outside of the box. Dutch-angles (that’s a tilted angle, to you and me) will flood the portfolios of any photographer branded under this subset.

Even photos of the bride and groom might be focused from different angles usually seen in the normal wedding albums of your friends and family.

Wedding photographers will normally a blend of the above styles, but if you have your set on one then make sure to focus on making a point of your photographer knowing so.
