5 Alternatives to the White Wedding Dress for Weddings in Malta

By July 30, 2018 No Comments

Ever since Queen Victoria went down the aisle in one, the white wedding dress has become the staple of the fairytale wedding. Yet, what you choose to wear, should not be set in stone. After all, your wedding outfit should reflect your style and your passions.

So here are some alternatives to get your thinking about what else you could wear on your big day.

1. Trouser Suit or Jumpsuit

Did you know that you don’t necessarily have to opt for a dress? Over the years, white trouser suits (also known as pantsuits in the US) and jumpsuits have been worn by various non-traditional brides. One of the main advantages of these is that you reduce the bulk of fabric that often makes it so hard for a bride to move about at her own wedding.

2. Floral Prints

Why not wear your bouquet on your sleeve, and skirt, and neckline on your wedding day? Donning a dress with a floral print will make you stand out even more and can give it a completely different character. Moreover, you don’t even need to forfeit the idea of a white dress completely… Just have a white one adorned. Oh, and if you love symbolism, you could always use books and websites that explain the language of flowers to find or create a print that says exactly what you’d like it to.

3. Colour Blocking

With a base of white and a pop of colour in the form of a sash, a veil or even an overskirt, you could take your wedding dress game to a whole new level. This also adds drama to your look and takes things out of the conventional without going completely against the grain.

4. Full Colour

Sarah Jessica Parker got married in full black. For her first wedding to Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor wore a yellow chiffon dress. Julianne Moore, meanwhile, got married in lilac Prada dress. The point here is that white is not the only way to go, but our advice is to always proceed with caution when it comes to this. After all, it’s a well-known fact that SJP regrets her choice.

5. Experimental

The word ‘dress’ often limits us to what we could actually wear. But have you ever thought about putting together an ensemble for your wedding? Crop tops, balloon skirts and sheer dresses could totally transform your look. Just look at it this way: you’re working towards a look that helps you stand out, but you’ll be wearing it on your wedding day so go all out!
