1. Think Outside The Box
There are so many gorgeous well known wedding venues in Malta that we’re spoiled for choice. There’s nothing more princess-esque than a Palazzo wedding reception, and you’re going to need a much larger venue with garden grounds if your invites list tops the hundreds mark! There’s also the option of hosting your wedding reception at a large private house, if you can find one! Why not try your luck on Facebook and see if there are any large farmhouses available to rent at your required date? Check with the owners if they’ll be willing to host a smaller wedding- they won’t have to be involved if you organise all the rest of the planning and make sure that the place is spick and span by the time your rental is up! This is a great idea for non-Maltese couples who’ve chosen to get married on our beautiful islands, with the added bonus that the bride and groom can sleep at their luxury rental, along with their family and guests if they wish!
2. Consider Vintage
Buying a vintage wedding dress has many perks to it. Firstly- the cost. A vintage wedding dress can range from anything from €20 if you’re lucky, all the way up to the thousands if it’s a highly sought-after vintage designer piece. Vintage dresses look extremely flattering when it’s two brides tying the knot! You can search online for one that takes your fancy or visit a specialised designer vintage shop if you happen to be going abroad to places like London or Paris. There’s something extremely romantic about a vintage dress in white or cream, and if you’re after a Pinterest-worthy look then cuts inspired by decades gone by can really work well for your Big Day. Keep your eye out for fabulous vintage jewellery whilst you browse too!
3. Go Independent
Professional Wedding Photographers will capture your Big Day down to each detail, capture every smile and know exactly how to work the crowd to get the best pictures of your guests. Professionals know when and where to photograph and who to photograph. They come up with novel poses for the bride and groomsmen, and make sure to include all the family members for group photos of the newlyweds. However, there are many semi-amateur photographers and videographers out there that are a fraction of the cost that you can seek out online, to go along with your main photographer, for a different angle. Why not employ a college student for the big night? Their rates will be considerably lower and they can use your wedding as practice for their career! Make sure all your guests are using a fun Instagram and Facebook hashtag for all the photos of your wedding that they take on the day!
4. Consider Other Food Options
Food is one of the major expenses that you’ll need to budget into your wedding plan, and there are no real “rules” when it comes to how you will be serving your wedding food, so don’t stress if you feel like you’re rebelling a little by not doing it the usual Maltese way, with trays of lovely little canapés rotating round by smart waiters with silver trays – although we can’t say we don’t love this method! There’s also the option to host a sit-down meal in the venue after the marriage ceremony, with your closest of guests. This can be money-saving as you can include a special invite with an RSVP section, so you’ll know exactly how many mouths you’ll be feeding and won’t have any wasteful excess food! A buffet is also a fabulous option that can help you save money. Speak to your catering provider who will be helpful in working out your menu mathematics! If you’re having an outdoor reception, don’t forget you can organise things like a pasta bar, barbecue or even a hog roast if you so wish!
5. Delightful Decor
There are so many gorgeous wedding decorations out there that can be home made, from tableware to souvenirs for wedding guests to take home! Have a look at mood boards online for inspiration and have a crack at it yourself! Of course, there are many craftsmen and carpenters that can help you with your vision. Perhaps you want to erect a plain wooden structure with decking as a kissing booth, decorated with flowers – sure to look stunning in photos! Keep your eye out for wooden shipping pallets which can be used in all sorts of remarkable ways. How about painting one of them with blackboard paint and chalking your names onto it? Photo booths can be rented out in Malta and they’re gaining huge popularity here! Gold frames can be bought cheaply either from a frame shop or a second-hand shop, and painted. Just remove the frame’s innards and your guests will be able to use it as a prop throughout the night. So much fun!
