As of last Wednesday’s budget, couples who have Maltese residency can claim a further €250 on their wedding function– taking the maximum up to €2,000!
To benefit from this tax rebate scheme, couples need to fill and submit a form no later than six months after the actual wedding ceremony. They must also keep original fiscal receipts and invoices, as well as relevant documentation, for a minimum of two years from the date of submission of the form, as these may be requested by the Commissioner for Revenue.
Each wedding expense has its own cap, and applicants can receive up to 13.04% of their expenditure with the maximum being €1,747 for a singular expense.
Nevertheless, the scheme is only open to those who have never benefitted from it before, meaning that those celebrating their second wedding can only apply if they hadn’t done so for their first.
Once and if approved, the grant payment will be deposited directly to the bank account indicated on the application form.
The form can be accessed here.
