Once you’re engaged and you’ve set the date for your wedding, the dilemma begins: Should I book now? Should I wait? What if they’re unavailable? These are all tricky questions to answer, particularly since many people book two or three years before the actual day they will tie the knot.
So here are some tips on how to, hopefully, get it right!
1. Wedding Planner
If you’re engaging the services of a wedding planner, then that is the first thing you should book. 2. But If There’s No Wedding Planner, Then Don’t Procrastinate on Key Vendors
Wedding season sees all services stretched to their absolute limit, so if you want a particular wedding venue or wedding photographer, then book them as early as possible. Many couples are now giving themselves well over a year to plan their wedding, and some venues are already booked up on certain dates for 2020 and beyond. The trick here is to book that which you can’t envisage your wedding without first so you can put your mind at rest.
3. But there is such a thing as too early
Everyone’s big day is important, but not everything needs to be planned out three years in advance. Focus on the key vendors and make sure you have a secure structure on which you can build you dream wedding (like a wedding venue, a florist, wedding caterer and a wedding photographer/wedding videographer). But leave the details for later on.
4. Think Carefully
Budgets are budgets, and it’s not always possible to do everything you’d like to on your big day. Nevertheless, it’s very important to be realistic about what you can live without and what you’ll end up regretting. For example, while a videographer is a big expense, it is someone you will thank yourself for hiring as early as possible. Why? Because leaving it till the last minute means you may not get a videographer whose style you like, or even ending up without a video of your big day.

6. BONUS – Foreign Weddings
If you’re getting married abroad, then plan well ahead. A Save the Date along with all the details of where and when the wedding will take place, should be sent out at least 12 to 18 months before the actual day to give guests time to make arrangements. This, on top of giving guests the opportunity to book and plan ahead, also makes things easier for anyone who would love to come to your wedding but who may not be able to afford the expenditure at a moment’s notice. Do keep in mind, however, that you should keep a strict RSVP of no later than eight weeks before the actual date, so you can confirm amounts and budgets with your wedding suppliers.
