5 Top Tips To Help You Shop For Your Bridesmaids’ Dresses

By April 23, 2018 No Comments

So you’ve picked your besties who will be waiting on your every need on your Big Day. Now you just need to get their dresses off your mind so you can all get excited, and you want them all to be excited about getting zipped up. Coming up with common ground when it comes to fashion for a group of girls can be daunting, but there are many ways you can work round it. One of them is to pick a specific colour, and your bridesmaids can opt for different cuts in the same hue. Perhaps you’d love your bridesmaids to walk down the isle before you in red satin dresses to go with your choice of red roses, or maybe you’d prefer them in longer goddess like dresses in classy hues like soft pebble grey or even primrose yellow for a morning wedding.

Here are a few tips you’ll need to keep in mind when buying bridesmaids’ dresses. Good Luck!

1. Have a style in mind

As the Bride-to-be, you’ll no doubt have an overall “look” in mind for your wedding day. You might be going for an ethereal, natural look in which you’ll be looking for soft, flowing fabrics for your bridesmaids. Floor-length gowns always look stunning, for evening weddings especially. If your normal day to day dressing is more on the vintage style, you can look for dresses with a flattering 1950’s style, with nipped in waistlines and a fuller skirt. Think about colours that will fit in with your floral scheme and of course the groom’s suit. Make sure both you and your husband to be are thinking along the same lines when it comes to his party and your own bridesmaids, as they’ll no doubt be featuring in a lot of photos together!

2. Bring some moral support

Sometime’s you’ve got to be cruel to be kind, and what better person to offer advice than your close relatives and perhaps even the groom’s if you’re close enough! They have your best intentions at heart and will be there to offer critique for both you and your bridesmaids when it comes to what looks best. Bear in mind different body shapes suit different cuts, but if you’re all in love with a certain dress it’s usually best off to just trust your instincts and go with the flow! Your bridesmaids will no doubt be uncomfortable by the end of the night, so check out some shoe shops where you can treat them to some diamonte sandals so they can kick off their shoes once the party really gets started.

3. Buy in advance

If you’re going the full whack and buying your dresses made to measure, you’ll need to start thinking about doing so way in advance. Dresses off the rails can be tailored to fit your bridesmaids’ bodies so that they’ll nip and tuck in all the right places. Many formal, more expensive pieces come with zips and buttons so you’ll have to gently ask your friends to not stray too far from their fitting weight! This is of course if you’re going for a more fitted type of dress, and there are many ‘Greek Goddess style’ off the shoulder dresses or simple slips that have a looser fit. Don’t forget to take into account the underwear and shapewear that you may need to purchase  for a streamlined look with no peeking bra-straps or VPL!

4. Shop Around

Finding the perfect bridesmaids’ dresses can take much longer than you have budgeted into your wedding preperation timeline. When you find the perfect dresses for your besties, you’ll have such a load off your mind and you can focus on other things that need sorting out before the Big Day. So the best plan of action is to set a time frame, say two weeks, and dedicate your free time to hunting down the perfect dresses. Don’t forget that there’s a whole world of ready-made dresses out there on the Internet, some even on sale that you can buy for your bridesmaids in their sizes, and have them tailored cheaply once they’ve been delivered at a local tailor, if you don’t mind higher end high street buys rather than tailor made!

5. Add a Cute Twist

We’ve all seen those silky embroidered dressing gowns worn by famous Instagrammers on their wedding days, getting pampered in their dressing rooms and eating croissants, with either “Mother of The Bride” or “Maid of Honour” on the back; but we haven’t yet seen anything as cool as these custom embroidered denim jackets! There’s something extra special about having all your best friends around you on one of the best days of your life, so embrace it! Don’t forget that gifting jewellery to your main girls is a touching way of saying a big Thank You for being there for the build up and main event! Awwwww.
